MISSION
Our goal is to help Northfield area seniors learn how to use computers and other modern technology equipment.
METHOD
Classes are specially designed to meet the need of seniors. All computer instruction is hands-on and is held in a computer lab in the Senior Center. Class size is limited to eight. A coach usually sits next to every student. The pace is carefully controlled to optimize learning by seniors. The instructors are senior volunteers with considerable computer and teaching experience. Free, monitored, open lab sessions are available each week for student practice.
A free, two hour Tech Time session is scheduled on the third Friday of each month. During the first hour a technical topic is presented and during the second hour participants can raise questions about any technical concern. This is essentially a computer users club.
EQUIPMENT
The computer lab is equipped with 9 PCs running Microsoft Windows XP. There is a ceiling mounted projector. Printers, scanners, and CD recorders are available for classes and student use.
VOLUNTEERS
Everyone involved in the computer instruction program is a volunteer. We welcome new people to coach and instruct in our growing program.
